So What is the Difference between Boudoir, Pin-Up and Glamour Photography?
Personally, in my opinion there is a considerable overlap between all of these photographic styles or genres. It all depends. You could classify boudoir as just a sexier form of glamour photography as boudoir is more about the bedroom atmosphere. Pin-Up photography is also about being sexy but in a more flirtatious way with those crazy facial expressions. But glamour as well, is based on the sensuous beauty of the female form. But I suppose, boudoir may be more about the seduction process in the bedroom atmosphere but again who says glamour or pin-up has to reside out in the hall.
Boudoir, pin-up and glamour photography is all about capturing the inner and outer beauty of a woman. Maybe it is the mood she is in that dictates the look from flirtatious to seductive. Glamour can be about the sophisticated look with fancy lingerie and beautiful jewellery situated in a sophisticated setting. Pin-up can be all about the fun filled girl next door wearing any style of outfit from cherry covered lingerie to cowboy chaps and hat, in exaggerated poses. It’s that look on her face that describes her playfulness of what is about to or not happen, next. Boudoir has the look and location that leads to seduction.
However, these are only my thoughts, as the glamour, pin-up and boudoir sessions I have photographed tend to overlap on a regular basis. Most of the pin-up sessions I photograph go from playful to seductive as the client wants a variety of poses and wardrobe changes.
Considering the style of photography where a little more cleavage or leg is shown, I try to provide as high of a degree of sensitivity and as much understanding as I can, to all my clients. Even the traditional portrait session can be a little intimidating for some, so I’m fully aware that any of the photography sessions for glamour, pin-up and boudoir genres can ramp up the intimidation factor just a bit.
So I strive for the trust and comfort factor of my clients. In order for me to capture beautiful photographs of my client she has to know that she can trust me and she wants to know that I will make her look beautiful.
